SLO- Ledger Nr. 69. Cultural heritage- Bloke

Bloke is a plateau in Notranjska, known for skiing. It is the place, where skis were first documented in the 17th century. Long winters with a lot of snow are typical for Bloke. For that reason, the people invented skis.  They did not have skiing for fun or for sports, but for practical use. Skiing in that time meant cross-country moving in the high snow. The Bloke people were the only one in Central Europe who used skiing and waving in the snow. With skis, moving in high snow was faster and easier than moving on foot
