France Prešeren was the most important Slovenian poet. He wrote a poem Zdravljica from which the seventh stanza later became the Slovenian anthem. He was born on 3 December 1800 in a small village in Gorenjska called Vrba. The name of this village means ‘willow’ and this is one of the significant trees for Slovenia. This house is a part of Slovenian cultural heritage. From the poet’s birth till today the house was not changed much, it was just renovated, so today it looks as it was two hundred years ago. In these days the house is a museum of France Prešeren. There you can find his notes, poems and his pictures. Even the furniture in the house is from the time, when the poet was alive.
