A big puzzle was why rodents constantly grow their teeth and maintain their sharpness.
Slovenian scientists were at Environmental Protection College of Velenje where they study nutrias. They are cooperating with the German and American scientists. They are researching specimens from Ljubljana’s marsh. The upper layer of the tooth is called enamel (this layer has not been known so far) and has a lot of iron. In the teeth there is also a lot of magnesium. Iron and magnesium are crucial for the constant growth of the teeth and to maintain constant sharpness.
