CAT/SP – News n. 46 – Barcelona switches off private lighting in municipal buildings: a public and renewable electricity company is born.

Traffic lights, street lighting, municipal swimming pools, libraries, Town Hall buildings and, in short, all municipal centers will no longer depend on the large electric corporations as of today. Barcelona Energia is a city commercializing light company that is committed to “energy sovereignty” and “renewable energies”, in the words of the city mayor, Ada Colau.

During the month of July the shutdown of private lighting will be carried out in 3,908 points and 19 centers of the group of municipal companies. In January next year a new phase of the process will be launched in which citizens, up to a maximum of 20,000 households, will be able to contract municipal energy through Barcelona Energy, which will initially be managed by Tersa, a public waste treatment and selection company.
